I have discovered a great number of bars and restaurants across
the US, too bad I can't always remember the name of half the places
I went to. I always end up in a cab or walking around forever finding
the place that I thought was next to that red building on the left.
Two places I really like are in San Antonio, TX and Charleston,
S.C. Durty Nelly's ~ (210) 222-1400 in San Antonio down along the
Riverside Walk. Perhaps it's the night 6 of us had when we drank
more Guinness than one could handle. The food wasn't necessarily
brilliant, standard Irish pub food. What made it fun was the man
who sat down at the piano. He got the whole place singing at the
top of their lungs. We sang every standard in the book or should
I say the lyric sheet placed on every table.
Everyone working at Dirty Nellies had a great attitude, almost
like Ireland meets Texas (whoa, that's almost scary). I have experienced
a number of different Irish pubs, some call themselves Irish pubs
because they put a neon sign of an Irish beer in the window. Nellies
definitely surpasses that carrying a fun Irish atmosphere.
I'm a big fan of red wines and good cigars. This is another one
of those places I forget the name of. Whenever I have stayed in
Charleston it's always been the Holiday Inn downtown. If you stand
outside the front door you would make a left turn and walk a block
or two. It's on the same side of the street as the hotel. A cigar
shop on the bottom where you buy your cigar. Head upstairs where
you got jazz playing in the background, big couches, lovely looking
ladies working the bar, and a great selection of wines. I left the
place at about 2am and it was still going strong.
If you like that type of place The Pub a Love in Nashville is a
fun place. It's across the street from a place called 12th and Porter.
Not as many couches though. Happy drinking and singing.
